The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of software engineers in a primarily eyes-on leadership position, ensuring the successful delivery of technical projects while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
This role involves close collaboration with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to drive the development roadmap, maintain technical excellence, and ensure that both quality and velocity goals are met through team enablement, strategic technical guidance, and people development.
The Engineering Manager will report to the Engineering Director and will share the appropriate level of information and transparency to move projects forward.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership at Squad Level
Collaborate with Product Manager & Designer on roadmap, project management, and strategic planning.
Provide technical guidance and architectural oversight, with selective hands-on coding (20-30%) for critical paths, proof-of-concepts, or unblocking the team.
Enable engineers through architectural guidance, technical decision-making, and removing technical blockers.
Oversee code review process and standards, conducting reviews on critical or architecturally significant changes.
Ensure team meets velocity and quality targets through effective prioritization and resource allocation.
Define and communicate technical direction and architecture decisions for the squad.
Analyze requirements, assess feasibility, and ensure appropriate technical documentation.
Guarantee project goal achievement, identify risks early, and orchestrate solutions to blockers.
Champion best practices (unit testing, TDD, CI/CD, etc.) in collaboration with the QA team.
Drive implementation of clean code principles, testing standards, release processes, and pair programming culture (in partnership with Staff Engineers).
Oversee monitoring and observability to ensure KPIs are met and systems are fully functional.
Manage support request workflows from internal teams, ensuring timely resolution and proper prioritization.
Balance technical debt reduction with feature delivery, maintaining system health.
Team Management, Coaching & Development
Lead and grow a team of 4-8 engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
Collaborate with Talent teams to recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
Conduct regular 1:1s and create individualized development plans for career growth.
Own performance management: provide clear feedback, conduct performance reviews, build promotion cases, and guide compensation discussions.
Delegate technical leadership opportunities to senior engineers, developing future technical leaders.
Ensure team cohesion, motivation, and psychological safety.
Encourage ambition, high standards, and continuous improvement.
Align individual and team performance with business objectives.
Create opportunities for learning, skill development, and knowledge sharing.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
Communicate technical progress, risks, and trade-offs to Product, Design, and Engineering leadership.
Represent the team in planning cycles, prioritization discussions, and cross-functional meetings.
Translate business requirements into technical strategy and communicate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
Build trust and maintain transparency with all stakeholders.
Technical Leadership at Engineering Level
Collaborate with other leads (Staff Engineers / Engineering Managers / SRE) to coordinate priorities and align on technical strategy.
Work with Engineering Director to establish scalable processes as the team expands.
Contribute to engineering-wide technical strategy and long-term architectural planning.
Lead cross-functional initiatives to elevate the overall engineering organization.
Develop, test, and improve cross-team processes, coordinating with Tech leads to implement them effectively.
Make architectural decisions that impact multiple teams or have long-term technical implications.
Champion engineering culture and values across the organization.
