Job Description

About the role

Neurobus is developing cutting-edge vision solutions and systems, leveraging neuromorphic technologies to enhance the intelligence and efficiency of embedded devices and robots in the Space and Defense sectors.

We are opening this position to build and iterate on the foundational hardware for our prototype drone platform, a crucial stepping stone for integrating our neuromorphic autonomous vision pipelines into aerial robotics. This platform will serve as a testbed for evaluating and refining our technologies in real-world scenarios.

We are seeking a passionate and resourceful engineer with a knack for hands-on aerial drone construction and a strong understanding of both mechanical and electronic engineering principles. You will be responsible for building a high-speed, customizable First Person View aerial drone prototype, leveraging open-source resources and DIY tutorials, and creating a key platform for autonomous navigation and vision system integration. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the core development of our robotic platforms, gaining invaluable experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment and a dynamic, talented engineering team.

What you will do

As a Drone Platform Engineer Intern at Neurobus, you will:

  • Design, assemble, and test a high-speed, customizable First Person View drone prototype based on open-source platforms and DIY tutorials.

  • Source and select appropriate components (motors, ESCs, flight controllers, batteries, etc.) to optimize for speed, maneuverability, and payload capacity.

  • Develop a modular design that allows for easy integration and testing of various sensors and vision systems.

  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues during assembly and flight testing.

  • Document the entire construction process, including component selection, wiring diagrams, and software configuration.

  • Present findings and progress updates to the team.

  • Collaborate with the team to integrate and test perception and control software pipelines.

  • Participate in flight testing and data collection to evaluate and optimize performances.

  • Contribute to the long-term development of our internal drone platform, influencing its design and capabilities.

Preferred Experience

What you will bring

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field

  • Proven experience building and flying DIY First Person View aerial drones, showcasing a strong understanding of drone mechanics and electronics

  • Solid understanding of electronics, including circuit design, soldering, and basic troubleshooting

  • Familiarity with flight controllers, electronic speed controllers, efficient radio communication modules, and other drone components

  • Experience with drone configuration software, such as Betaflight, ArduPilot, etc

  • Basic programming skills C / C++ or Python

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Fluency in English

Bonus points:

  • Experience with 3D printing and CAD software, such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc

  • Experience with computer vision and autonomous navigation

  • Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System)

  • Experience with sensor integration, such as cameras, IMUs, range finders, etc
