Job Description

You will be part of the technical team within Estuaire and work closely with our collaborators in charge of technology. This Research Scientist role will cover the following responsibilities:

  • Research and Development:

    • Lead internal research projects focusing on the non-CO2 effects of aviation, leveraging AI, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP), and advanced aircraft performance modeling
    • Lead internal research projects focusing on climate models for aviation with a focus on CO2 emissions from fuel burn, other green-house gas emissions & aircraft lifecycle impacts 
    • Follow the international scientific developments and choices on climate equivalence metrics in order to compare various aviation effects on climate change
    • Build up & manage a team of researchers from scratch
  • Community Engagement and Collaboration:

    • Launch and Manage collaborative research projects with top universities, fostering academic partnerships that advance our research goals. Become the voice of the company in scientific and academic forums
    • Leverage data from industrial partners and in-service aircraft to co-develop cutting-edge climate models and validate them

Preferred Experience

We are looking for the following qualifications but do not worry if not matching all of them :

  • PhD in Aerospace Engineering/Climatology or equivalent

  • 2-4 years of experience, as an engineer or scientist, in an aerospace company or laboratory

  • Knowledge in data-science is mandatory with ability to write efficient code in Python

  • Candidate should be curious, autonomous and a reliable team player with interest for sustainability & impact

  • Fluent in french is a plus but not necessary, we speak day to day in english

  • “This cannot work” is a sentence you use very carefully

Recruitment Process

  • A first interview with our co-founder in charge of tech (30-45 min) :

    -Get-to-know and discussion about experience, motivation and interests

    -Short technical challenges “e.g. what is a climate impact metric?”

  • A second interview with our other co-founder (30-45 min)

    -Get-to-know and discussion about experience, motivation and interests

    Live case to understand your reaction to a specific customer problem that implies research efforts in the longer run

  • A third interview with the tech team (1h):

    -Technical case to prepare & present around the climate impact of aviation
