By using satellites and AI, we quantify emissions from agriculture so that farmers can get rewarded when they adopt low-emission practices.

Job Description

CarbonFarm is looking for a climate-passionate 🌳 Machine Learning Intern to turn satellite data into useful insights about farming practices.

Responsibilities 💻

  • develop algorithms to identify farmer practices from terabytes of satellite data (SAR and optical)

  • collaborate with fellow engineers (ML, AI, Data) to develop models and algorithms that identify how farmers are cultivating their land

  • work with our chief architect to deploy models in production

  • explore different approaches in remote sensing from the scientific community (e.g. foundation models) to find the best models for our use case

  • test and validate models

Preferred Experience

Qualifications 🎓

  • 2+ years programming on a regular basis, be it through school or employment

  • a genuine problem solver, not scared of new technologies

  • master’s or PhD student in data science, computer science, remote sensing or engineering

  • proficiency in python

  • at least a basic understanding of using different data structures, be it in python, SQL or otherwise

  • proficiency in English

  • attention to detail

  • flexible and focussed on solutions

  • organised and self-sufficient

Would be nice

  • familiarity working in agile environment is a plus

  • experience using cloud-based computing (GCP or similar) is a plus

  • experience processing satellite data, particularly SAR, is a plus

  • experience modelling time-series data is a plus
