Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Building deep understanding of existing algorithms and imaging data assets
  • Evaluating different imaging platforms
  • Developing algorithms aimed at maximizing information capture from UAV and satellite data feeds
  • Contributing to components of in-flight imaging analyses
  • Building algorithms at field/sub-field level to solve real-world problems and help African producers with their decision making

Competencies

  • Fluent in Python (preferred) or R, capable of framing problems as programming tasks from the ground up, as well as working with existing code
  • Can use and understand geospatial/statistical/machine learning libraries in Python or R
  • Can work with and understand a wide range of geospatial data formats
  • Can use git for day-to-day version control
  • Strong knowledge of image processing and remote sensing
  • Knowledge of GIS concepts and experience with vector geospatial data
  • Can translate the results of complex analyses into interpretable results, visually and verbally
  • Able to create and execute their own tasks with minimal direction
  • Works well both as a team member and independently
  • Writes well-documented, maintainable code in a collaborative environment

Preferred Experience

  • Masters/PhD degree with a quantitative focus
  • Substantive (1-3 years) experience in a technology focused environment
  • Some experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or other large scale computing
  • Familiarity with these subjects: digital agriculture, crop physiology, optical sensors, signal processing
