Monk provides visual expertise through Computer Vision and Deep Learning algorithms. Today, the AI is able to detect and classify damage on any vehicle, with photos taken by a smartphone. The company is already working with international leading players, such as our parent company ACV Auctions (USA), but also CAT logistics (Europe) Getaround (France), Autobiz (Europe) or Hgreg (Canada).

Monk won the X-Silicon Valley award, was named in the TOP 30 of Station F and won the Coup de Coeur of the Finance-Innovation award and has just been acquired by ACV Auctions after only 2 and a half years. The team is young and dynamic from the best French research labs and engineering schools.

About us

Job Description

Missions :

  • Build scalable applications for Monk ML Engineers to facilitate common tasks:
    • Run and evaluate models
    • Train models
    • Retrieve and store data
    • Annotate and generate data
    • Review and improve data
  • Support a data-centric approach to leverage all the unstructured and structured data of Monk: active learning, confident learning, dataset iteration... Try to help avoid some common ML issues (underspecification, fruitless model fiddling...) and work on the big lever that is high-quality data.
  • Work on ML ops best practices to help the data infrastructure of Monk.ai scale.
  • Iterate with ML Engineers to identify bottlenecks and pain points in the ability of Monk R&D to constantly offer new and better ai services.
  • Take into consideration multiple stakeholders and constraints including: ai performance, quality of life for ml scientists, cost-efficiency of labeling and infrastructure etc...

Tech stack :

  • Databases: SQL, Postgres with sqlalchemy. Document-based NoSQL. ETL.
  • ML: Python, Torch, ClearML, Ray
  • Infrastructure: GCP, Kubernetes, CircleCI
  • Backend: Python, Flask, Rabbitmq, OpenAPI
  • Frontend: JS, TS, React

Preferred Experience

Skills :

  • Solid backend engineering and software engineering skills.
  • Understanding of SQL and NoSQL database, their constraints and how to use them effectively
  • Knowledge of engineering skills related to data-intensive applications, for scalability, reliability, robustness and observability.
  • A mindset for data-oriented decision-making: being obsessed about measuring result data and acting on it.
  • An understanding of Deep Learning Models and the constraints related to build, use and evaluate them at scale.

Profile :

  • Bac+4 or bac+5 in an Engineering school
  • You are interested in the startup environment, and you are able to take on the challenge of autonomy and proactivity.
